Holistic Massage

Massage is a hands on therapy which has been practised for thousands of years. Today's massage techniques are the result of development work by Per Henrik Ling from Sweden in the nineteenth century where he wrote "The Complete Book of Swedish Massage".

There are many types of massage now available including holistic massage, shiatsu, hot stones, Indian head massage, acupressure. All are based on the same idea of improving circulation and releasing toxins which have built up in muscle tissue, though acupressure works with energy lines in the body rather than body tissue.

Holistic massage can be used to relax the body, or to stimulate it depending on the vigour of the massage and techniques used. In today's world many of us find tension builds up in muscles in the back, neck and shoulder areas and massage can help these muscles to relax. After treatment clients can feel very relaxed or tired and they may find they sleep better. Muscles in the back, neck and shoulders may feel less tight. Some individuals may experience more energy as a result of massage, and it can sometimes be an invigorating treatment.

What can I expect from a massage treatment?

I will start by taking information about your health and well-being and then we will discuss the treatment to be given. Massage is designed to release tension or a build-up of lactic acid in specific muscles. Both of these things can be experienced as pain in a part of the body. Sometimes the tension is a result of repeated actions which can be work-related, like sitting at a computer desk affecting neck and shoulders, or heavy lifting which can affect the lower back.

Treatment is given to the affected area and areas surrounding the part which is tense or painful. Pressure for massage can be adjusted depending on the recipient and the amount of tension locked in an area. Harder pressure is not necessarily more effective.

How will I feel after treatment?

After treatment clients can feel very relaxed or tired, and they may find they sleep better. Muscles in the back, neck and shoulders may feel less tight. Some individuals may experience more energy as a result of massage and it can sometimes be an invigorating treatment.

Aftercare

Clients should take a few minutes at the end of the treatment before they get up from the couch to allow their body to absorb the changes that massage brings about. That is why you are asked to remain on the couch for a short while after treatment has finished.

It is always good to drink lots of water after a massage treatment to allow the body to flush through any toxins released from the muscles.

If you feel relaxed or tired take it easy for the rest of the day, but if you feel invigorated you can follow that feeling as long as you do not overdo it.

Treatments available

This treatment lasts about 25 minutes and concentrates on the whole of your back. Treatment is given to neck, shoulders, mid and lower back to help release tension stored in muscles. Occasionally arm massage forms a part of this treatment when linked to neck and shoulder issues.

This is a great treatment if you spend a lot of time in front of a computer, engage in heavy lifting or have over-strained muscles in this area from other activities.

Appointment time lasts approximately 45 minutes to allow time for the consultation.
